We are half way through summer, and the beginning of school is right around the corner. Even though a few students “say” they dread the start of school, most of them will admit they are excited about the new school year. For many children, this will be their first experience with a new school, whether it’s elementary, middle, high or college. We hope you will help your children remember, they are making an investment in their future and education at ANY level is very important.
READING is the first step in a child’s education. This summer, the Paulding libraries have offered several reading programs for children of all ages. The libraries are reporting record numbers of children attending the story times this summer, and they continue these excellent programs throughout the year.
We were able to meet some of Paulding’s newest and existing students at the New Georgia Library, and we’re proud they were excited to be a part of this month’s “Back to School” cover. We appreciate their parent’s willingness to let their children participate, and assist us in getting the pictures. On our cover is:
- Alexandria Head, age 5. She is the daughter of Jennifer Head of Douglasville.
- Sisters, Charlie Randolph, age 5 and Julia Randolph, age 3. They are the daughters of Catrina Randolph and are also from Douglasville.
- Ryan Barker, age 10 and his sister, Sarah Barker, age 3. They are the children of Todd and Lynette Barker from Dallas.
- Lily Seika Chisholm, age 5. She is the daughter of Manami Lingerfelt and step daughter of Thomas Lingerfelt from Dallas; and the daughter of Timothy Chisholm from Kennesaw.
- David Evans, age 4. He is the son of Jermile and Darlene Evans from Temple.
- Natasha Slater, age 9. She is the daughter of Amy Jordan from Dallas.
We want to say a special thank you to Branch Manager, Coleda and Children’s Specialist, Jessica from the New Georgia library for allowing us to disrupt a typical “quiet” afternoon at the library to take out cover shots. Also, we thank Charlotte, the Children’s Specialist from the Hiram library for her special assistance. These ladies are truly dedicated to offering exciting opportunities that encourage children to read.
On a special note, September is “National Library Card Sign-up Month”, so it’s a great time to get your child their own library card. To find information on upcoming children’s programs visit http://www.paulding.wgrl.org.
