SKIDS 4 KIDS
The Skids 4 Kids project is helping provide 800 pair of shoes to the students of Herschel Jones Middle School. Based on federal guidelines, HJMS is one of the highest poverty level schools in our county. It was because of this that Dena Owens and other members of the Christ Central Church in Dallas decided to start the Skids 4 Kids project.
The mission of Skids 4 Kids is to help break the stigma associated with poverty by providing every student at Herschel Jones Middle School with a new pair of athletic shoes for the 2010-2011 school year. However, their mission doesn’t end there. They have a vision that the Skids 4 Kids project will grow into a yearly event and distribute athletic shoes to poverty stricken children all throughout Paulding County.
To accomplish this program, they will need the help of the residents and businesses of Paulding County. The shoes will need to be donated or purchased at a discounted price, so they will need to apply for grants and in-kind donations from shoe companies and charities that support child focused activities. Also, they request donations and participation from area businesses throughout Paulding and by soliciting donations through advertisement and promotion with local news media and television stations.
The Skids 4 Kids project will include a festival on Friday September 17, 2010 to distribute the shoes at Herschel Jones Middle School.
How can YOU help provide a new pair of shoes for a needy child in Paulding County?
You can help by making a donation toward the festival, either monetary or product donations, which will include food, entertainment, fun, and of course free shoes. Residents and business owners can make a donation by making a monetary, tax-deductible contribution to Skids 4 Kids. All contributions are made directly to Christ Central Dallas and earmarked for Skids 4 Kids.
If there are any questions regarding making donations, please contact Dena Owens at 678-590-1312 or skids4kids@att.net.
