John and June Henderson
On this month’s cover are John and June Henderson of the High Shoals community in Paulding County. John was born and raised here, and has deep roots in Paulding through the Ragsdale and Henderson families. June has been here since she was a small child, moving from Marietta over 40 years ago after her parents decided they wanted to live in the country.
This past August, John and June celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary and John says “I’m still crazy about my wife” and that their relationship has only gotten better through the years.
They have three grown children. Jay and his wife Aimee have four daughters, Micaiah Rose (gone to be with Jesus), Abigail Ruth - age 3, Naomi Gray - age 20 months and Nora River – age one month. Their daughter Jill and her husband Jed Davitt live in New York City, as does their youngest daughter Jennie.
June is a housewife and truly enjoyed raising her family. John has been an insurance agent for State Farm for the past 24 years. Even though they are now “empty nesters”, they absolutely “LOVE IT!” John has a Harley Davidson motorcycle and rides quite a bit; sometimes with June. Together they love to “enjoy what God has provided in nature” during their walks and exercise time. During the summer months, they love to play in the creeks behind their home with friends and family.
They attend West Ridge Church and their faith is first in their life and marriage. John has a strong passion for the Paulding Pregnancy Center and the nation of Israel. In fact, he has traveled to Israel four times; once with. June. They do enjoy traveling together; in fact, one of their favorite trips is to Ohio to spend time with Amish friends. There they are able to enjoy living a simpler life and all of God’s blessings.
This Thanksgiving John and June are looking forward to a big traditional meal with family and friends. June loves to cook. Cooking is a great family tradition whether during the holidays, a Sunday afternoon or during a photo shoot. She and John surprised us with a spontaneous meal of beef stew and homemade bread; toasted with sorghum syrup.
Sometimes the greatest blessings come from a spontaneous moment, and meeting John and June was truly a gift. Sharing a meal together is a wonderful way for families and friends, both old and new, to bond. That is what it was like for us during our cover shoot with the Henderson’s. Hospitality is definitely one of their spiritual gifts and we appreciate them sharing that gift with us.
