Community Spotlight: Paulding Angels on a Mission
It never ceases to amaze us at the number of people who have generous hearts and serve our community in unique and wonderful ways. One group of friends are using their talents to make sure every child in Paulding gets something for Christmas, and they are doing it through their project Paulding Angels on a Mission or P.A.M.
Paulding Angels on a Mission was started by Monique Hobbs, Karla Dyer, and Sophie Metz just a short time ago. It all began when Monique saw a story of a local woman who gave bread to the needy. The story inspired her, and although she had limited funds and resources, Monique knew she needed to do something to give back. After prayerful consideration, she realized she could use her talent for sewing to make stockings for children.
Monique knew this wasn’t something she could do alone and asked for help. Karla reached out and offered her assistance, then shared the project with her mother, Sophie, who thought it was a wonderful idea. Together they decided to fill the stockings with gifts and make sure every needy child in Paulding County would get one this Christmas. Their idea took off and Paulding Angels on a Mission was born. Karla developed their Facebook page and started contacting churches and other businesses for donations.
Since starting P.A.M., the blessings haven’t stopped. They’ve been to many stores checking the clearance sales for affordable items to fill the stockings. They have met with several store owners, to let them know about their Mission and so far, many local businesses and individuals have opened their hearts and are helping out.
They have contacted schools, churches, and other local missions to find out which children will need a gift this year. The majority of the filled stockings will be out by December 17th, but they plan on working diligently up until the day of Christmas to make sure every child in Paulding has a Christmas present.
It’s truly wonderful what these three ladies have accomplished on their own in these few short months; however they do request your help. They are looking for donations of items for boys and girls up to age 15. The items they need are toys, toiletries, books, stuffed animals, cold weather items like gloves, mittens, scarves, and baby care needs; the possibilities are endless. Also, they are asking local businesses if they would consider being a donation drop off center.
They are very excited about the doors that have been opened through P.A.M. It is their hope the mission will grow, and they will not be limited to the Christmas holiday. Monique says, “You never know in life what you can accomplish until you try, and I am feeling the blessings rain down”.
